August Ordo 2019

As discussed in my previous post, I now have a copy of the 1952 Dessain Monastic Diurnal which mostly overlaps with the Lancelot-Andrewes Press Monastic Diurnal, expect for some feast days. For this August Ordo, I decided to combine the calendars into one Ordo so those using the LAP Diurnal and the Dessain Diurnal can use this Ordo with ease. Anything found only in the LAP Diurnal is written in blue and anything found only in the Dessain Diurnal is written in green. I hope this works well for everyone.

Comparing Calendars: Lancelot-Andrewes Press vs Dessain

I recently was given a copy of the Monastic Diurnal as published by Dessain in 1952. For those familiar, with the Farnborough MD, it is identical in most respects except that it uses the rubrics and calendar from before 1955. This characteristic makes it more comparable to the Lancelot-Andrewes MD in many regards. I do plan on writing a post that more thoroughly compares these two books. Today, I wanted to share a side-by-side comparison of the calendars presented in the LAP MD and Dessain MD, respectively. I've omitted movable feasts like Easter. I also did not include any of the days within octaves on this calendar.

For the most part, these calendars are very similar. Feasts which are in the LAP but not in the Dessain are highlighted in aqua; feasts which are in the Dessain but not the LAP are highlighted in lime; and feasts which are in both but are ranked differently are highlighted in yellow.

A quick summary:
