March 2020 Ordo

March begins with the First Sunday in Lent and almost the entirety of Lent takes place this month. St. Gregory the Great is celebrated with a D2 this month, but this is a feature of the monastic office since St. Gregory (March 8) was a Benedictine. On the Roman Calendar he is ranked Double. Similarly, the Passing of St. Benedict (March 21) is ranked D2 but only because it is a specially Benedictine feast. On the Roman calendar, the feast is simply called "St. Benedict" and is ranked Greater Double. Finally, St. Gabriel the Archangel (March 24) appears in the LAP MD without rank. I decided to treat is as though it were a Greater Double, which is the rank that it hold in the Roman Calendar. This means that despite have a full set of propers, St. Gabriel receives only a commemoration.

February 2020 Ordo

February is marked by a number of important feasts such as the Purification (2 Feb), St. Scholastic, Virgins and Sister of Our Holy Father Benedict (10 Feb), and the Chair of St. Peter (22 Feb). Interestingly, the LAP drops this last feast, probably because it was viewed as too overtly Roman by the Anglican editors. Whatever the case, this feast is traditionally consider the feast of the Chair of St. Peter at Antioch. The feast of the Chair of St. Peter at Rome was celebrated on 18 January. This feast was removed from the General Roman Calendar in 1960, but does not show up in the Dessain MD at all; probably an example of early liturgical innovation on the part of the Benedictines. The Antiochian Western Rite Vicariate celebrates both feasts of the Chair of of St. Peter and elevates the "at Antioch" feast to the rank of Double Second Class. It's unclear what propers are used for the celebration of the "at Rome" feast.

This February marks the early introduction of Septuagesima. Each Sunday of Septuagesima has a proper office while using the ferial Sunday psalms (51, 118, etc.). The subsequent weekdays all have a proper Magnificat Antiphon at Vespers.

As always, LAP specific feasts are colored in blue and Dessain specific feasts are colored green.
